Sea kayaking is the discipline of paddling across open waters of lakes, bays, and the ocean. Our club often organises day trips, as well as overnight trips, on the Lough Corrib, Galway bay and the sea around Connemara. Different from the white water kayaks, the kayaks are long, low and slim boats, pointed at both ends. Lacking in manoeuvrability, compared to white water kayaks, they provide comfort for long journeys, higher cruising speed, cargo capacity and ease of straight-line paddling.
During the year, our club organises for club members L3 (or L4) Sea Kayak Skills sessions with the possibility to obtain the Sea Kayak Skills Certificate.
